EXECUTIVE GOVERNOR, 
BAYELSA STATE. 


AN OPEN LETTER PASSIONATELY APPEALING TO CONSIDER A KOLGA CANDIDATE TO BE YOUR SUCCESSOR IN THE FORTH COMING GOVERNORSHIP ELECTION IN BAYELSA STATE.

Sir,

We the youths of Kolokuma/Opokuma in our accord irrespective of party affiliation most respectively and with deep sense of humility, which to appeal to you in considering a KOLGA person to be your successor in the forthcoming Governorship election in the state.

Your Excellency Sir, we profoundly appreciates the infrastructural developmental projects your administration has executed in Kolokuma/Opokuma Local Government Area (KOLGA), your administration has express enormous love to the good people of the local government by sitting major projects which has given the local government area a face-lift.

To mention a few, this administration under your watch has successfully completed the construction of the Boro town road from Kaiama to Orubiri which has led to a massive development of both communities.

Also in Kaiama, the sitting of the famous Ijaw National Academy which has generated employment for our teaming unemployed youths and women which we believe has contributed to the economic growth of the community. Similarly, the official kick-off of the sports academy situated in Sabagreia/Okoloba all demonstrate your love for the good people of the local government area.

However, as a people, we believe that having evaluated the contributions and sacrifices made by the people of Kolokuma/Opokuma local government area in the growth and development of the Ijaw Nation in general and Bayelsa State in particular, the pace of development is comparatively very still minimal.

Needless to remind you that Late Major Isaac Jasper Adaka Boro who fought for the emancipation of the Ijaw Nation which metamorphosed to the creation of the then Rivers State and the subsequent creation of the today Bayelsa State hails from this said local government area.

It is also unarguable that the actual creation of Bayelsa State by the then Head of State, Gen. Sani Abacha was also made possible through the instrumentality of Sen. Dauzigha Etete also a son of the said local government area.

Consequently, the Kaiama declaration which led to the destruction of lives and properties point to the facts that Kolokuma/Opokuma has contributed substantially to our existence as a people.

Inspite of all these and many more, it will interest you to know that Kolokuma/Opokuma has not been given a fair treatment in terms of decentralization of political power. It is therefore a fact that Kololuma/Opokuma has not been given vital and viable position such as Governor, Deputy Governor, Speaker of the State House of Assembly and even a Senator since the creation of Bayelsa State.

After taking a critical analysis of the political progression of Bayelsa State, it will not be misleading to conclude that Kolokuma/Opokuma has been marginalized in terms of decentralization of political power despite sacrifices made.

We have observed with great dismay that whenever it comes to decentralization of political power, Kolokuma/Opokuma is always swept under the carpet with the flimsy reason that it constitutes the least populated local government area in the state. The biblical elusion that says you reap from where you sow has never been applicable to the people of Kolokuma/Opokuma local government area.

We are therefore very optimistic that this time haven successfully completed your tenure, the good and peace loving people of Kolokuma/Opokuma will reap from where we have sown by projecting any vibrant KOLGA son from your party to man the affairs of our beloved Bayelsa State.

We wish to state emphatically at this point that the facts as given above do not connote that other local government areas have not contributed immensely to the growth and development of our state and our existence as a people.

May the wisdom of the Almighty guide and direct you throughout your tenure in office.
